Changing Your Website's Hosting Subscription

This guide will walk you through moving your website from one hosting package to another. The process is now streamlined and involves using the "Change subscription" feature directly in your control panel. This procedure applies to any subscription change, whether you are upgrading from a free package to a paid one, or switching between different paid tiers.

Important Considerations Before You Begin

  • Resource Compatibility: Before attempting to switch plans, ensure that your website's current resource usage (such as Disk storage space, number of domains used, etc.) is supported by and within the limits of the new package you intend to move to.
  • Purchase Required: You must have the desired target hosting package purchased and available in your account before you can apply it to your existing website.
  • Downtime (Free to Paid Upgrades): If you are upgrading from a free hosting package to a paid one, your website will be moved to a new server. This triggers a change in DNS records, which causes a brief period of inaccessibility (typically 30 minutes to a few hours) due to DNS propagation. Switching between two paid packages typically does not cause downtime.
  • Database Migration (Optional): If you are upgrading from a free tier, remember that while this process moves the website, free-tier databases may still have performance limitations. For the best performance, we often recommend you also migrate your database to a paid plan.

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Navigate to Website Properties
    • In the control panel, navigate to the Websites section.
    • Click on the specific website you wish to upgrade (e.g., website.somee.com).
    • This will take you to the Website properties dashboard.
  2. Initiate Subscription Change
    • Locate the Change subscription button within the properties page.
    • Clicking this button will open a dialog box displaying your available hosting packages.
  3. Select New Plan and Confirm
    • In the dialog box, select the new hosting plan you purchased earlier.
    • Review the selection to ensure it is the correct package.
    • Follow the prompts to confirm the change.

If you are switching between paid packages, the update is usually immediate. However, if you are upgrading from a free plan, please allow some time for DNS propagation before the site becomes accessible on the new server.
